Queen Latifah Introduces the ‘Queen Collective’ for Female Filmmakers

Queen Latifah, actress, and former rapper, recently blessed us by partnering up with Procter & Gamble (P&G) to launch a new initiative for women who want to be filmmakers. This initiative is going to help women get into the movie-making business and get their stories heard from their perspective. Latifah plans on picking two independent projects created by women and having those projects scripted and completely funded. Once the projects are completed, the movies will be available on either Netflix, Hulu, or any other streaming outlet most appropriate for the project. This initiative was very much so needed because, let’s be real, how often does Hollywood release movies that correctly represents a group other than the white, masculine, cisgender, middle-class group?

What inspired Latifah to start her initiative was her own struggles coming up in Hollywood. As a woman of color in the movie industry, she faced a lot of prejudice that made her journey to success a bit harder, but she managed to overcome that. However, even though this was in the past, Latifah was able to look around and still see the same things happening to other underrepresented women. Thus, the initiative to help these women was born. I don’t know about y’all, but I’m ready for these movies to drop. Comment some female filmmakers that would benefit from this initiative!
