If you can’t get enough of Black Panther, you’re in for a real treat because Marvel is creating a comic book series focusing on tech whiz, Shuri who is Black Panther’s little sister. In the Black Panther movie and the recent Avengers: Infinity War movie Shuri was played by Letitia Wright who stole the show in her Black Panther film debut.
The author of Marvel’s Black Panther: Long Live the King and Wakanda Forever series, Nnedi Okorafor, is writing this spinoff as well. Leonardo Romero will be the illustrator of the comic and Sam Spratt is the cover illustrator. Okorafor made the announcement last year on Twitter writing “💥Announcement: I’m writing Shuri,” alongside a photo of Shuri with Marvel heroes like the Hulk in the background. According to the official Marvel synopsis “Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one — and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda’s welfare and her own.”
The plot of the comic is about Shuri having to steer away from creating gadgets in her lab to lead Wakanda while her brother goes missing during a mission in space. With Shuri next in line to take the throne of Wakanda, she steps out of her comfort zone and into a stronger role.
The series will be available in October 2018 but until then enjoy these images featuring the official cover and the developmental sketches of Shuri.
