The Fanny Pack Trend is Here to Stay

Let me start off by saying, I hate holding things. 9 times out of 10 if you hand me something to hold, I will do so reluctantly. Walking is already enough, I don’t wanna also be actively using arm strength to carry things. It’s more freeing to have full mobility of the arms. Of course, I can’t always avoid it but I try to by using a backpack or a fanny pack. I got my very first fanny pack a few weeks ago at the #CarefreeBlackGirl Cookout for $10! It’s this gold holographic color, I love it, it’s great!

Fanny packs, belt bags, side bags, are trendy right now and quite frankly I am here for it! For me, it’s the convenience and the versatility that makes them a great addition to an outfit. Concerts, theme parks, anywhere where you wanna be casual and hands-free. They come in so many colors and styles. Earlier today, I saw one the Forever 21 website that was faux fur.

You can also wear them in a few different ways. Now I have to decide: across the hips or crossbody? Pouch in the front or on the back?

I know at one point fanny packs were heavily associated with nerd culture. You know, the Urkels of the world. I guess only nerds care about efficiency. It’s a little heartbreaking that they were made fun of for wearing fanny packs back in the day because they make so much sense.

It almost seems like another case of hot people wearing traditionally unfashionable things and still being hot. Side note: is it possible to appropriate nerd culture? These are the questions that keep me up at night. Either way, I love my fanny pack, it’s really shiny and it brings me joy, something all clothes should do.
